Musing Monday #6

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week...
  • Describe one of your reading habits.
  • Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you choose that/those book(s).
  • What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
  • Tell us what you're reading right now – what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren't) enjoying.
  • Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
  • Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books – let's hear it, then!
My Reading Habits:

Something I think is weird about the way that I read is that I cannot read a book slowly. I have tried many times to stretch out a book just so that I can savor it and enjoy it for a longer period of time but I just can't. I also get irritated if I cannot read a book from start to finish in one sitting. I usually will read books from beginning to end so I don't like it when I am interrupted or I have to go do something else. So this especially annoys me now because I am in college and I have to balance reading and blogging with studying and school work.

I think it is strange that I cannot read a book slowly but I think it can also be a good thing because I become captivated by the story and cannot put it down. But I cannot do this for nonfiction or books that I have no interest in. Those take me a long time to finish.

Please leave a comment about your Musing Monday or comment on mine. Happy Monday :)

  1. When I'm really captivated by a book it takes me two days to finish it. I've found myself making daybreak just reading. I look up form the pages and the sun's coming up, the roosters are crowing and I could have sworn it was nine o'clock five minutes ago. But my crazies habit is that I read parts of the book I haven't gotten to yet. In the middle of reading I'll just open a page further along and start reading. Sometime I read a few lines near the ending. i can't help it.

  2. You're lucky that you can read books quickly! I wish I could finish books quicker, it would mean I could get so much more done. I find it so hard balancing blogging and reading with school and studying!

  3. Same here. It is nearly impossible for me not to read a book all at once and i hate being interrupted for something ridiculous such as work ;-)

  4. I'm a pretty fast reader, especially if I'm reading a suspenseful book, and I have to consciously make myself slow down sometimes so I can truly appreciate and savor the writing. If I'm really into a book, I'll drop everything if I can to finish it all at once. Then I sometimes go back and re-read more slowly to really enjoy the writing style.

  5. But how can you read books that are really really long? Or heavy? In these cases, I automatically slow down! Here's mine: http://cupandchaucer.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/musing-mondays-september-23/

  6. I'm like you. I like to read from start to finish without stopping. It does mean I get a lot of books read. Here is my MM

  7. Pretty sure I'd be considered a slow reader. Most books take me a week to read but I might have 3 or more on the go at once. I'll often start a book then put it aside and read 2 or 3 others then come back to it. Probably why I'm 20% behind on my reading goal this year.
