Remy Review

Title: Remy

Author: Katy Evans

Series: Real #3

Publish Date: November 25, 2013

My Review: Remy is the third installment in the Real series. It is the first book, Real, told in Remy's point of view. This book also has details on the wedding and we see an update on baby Racer.

Honestly, I think this book is a great read if you love this series. This book gives a look inside Remy's head and if you've read Real and Mine you know that that is an interesting place.

I liked to see Remy's opinions on things and his take on events because we only saw Brooke's. We also get to see what happened when Remy went to see Scorpion. Brooke only knew vague details so in result so did we. We finally get to see what happened after Brooke left and the pain that Remy felt.

I loved seeing details about the wedding because we get to see the love between the couple. We also get to see Remy's lack of patience to get the wedding over with so he can get Brooke to himself.

Quick Opinion: I loved Remy.  I think that it is fantastic for fans of Remy and the series. I give this novel 4.5 stakes and I'm dying to read more.

  10. How many books are on your to-be-read shelf?

A Second Chance for Christmas Review

Title: A Second Chance for Christmas

    Author: Nashin Sadeer

    Genre: Romance

    Publish Date: November 7, 2013

    Publisher: Matador

    Length: 255 pages

    Format: paperback, ebook

    ___________________________________________

Description (From Amazon): Nathan is a single father with a son named Stefan. He was married to a woman named Emily, but she unfortunately died when Stefan was three years old. Torn apart by grief, Nathan was full of remorse, shut himself away and became a workaholic.

Emily was everything for Nathan, and his life has still not gotten better. He has been living his life in sadness, and not realizing that he was hurting the most precious thing to him: Stefan.

But this Christmas, things are about to change. A young woman, Kate, has come into Nathan's life and he has fallen in love with her. She's the first woman since Emily's death. Kate has an important mission that she has to achieve before Christmas. However, she is hiding something from Nathan, and he doesn't realize who Kate actually is until she reveals her true identity on Christmas Day.

My Review: Truthfully, I tried to get into this book but I found it extremely difficult. Much  of the book is written in halting and proper sentences. There were also some obvious statements. Actually, it was the first sentence: "On November 23rd 2012 was a cold day and Nathan was in his splendid office, located on the top floor." that did it for me. They also make it very difficult to become interested in the story. Quite honestly, I could not finish this book. I think the concept and what I did read seemed like a good story. It seems like a Christmas story of redemption for a neglectful single father to find love and reconnect with his son. However, I could not get passed the beginning and the writing style.

Overall: Overall, I think the concept of this novel was very good but the execution could have been a lot better. I give A Second Chance for Christmas 1.5 stakes. I wish I could have liked it better but I just don't think it was right for me.

    Ghost Hold Steamy Excerpt:

Marcus crossed back to the faucet of the now-full tub and turned it off. He bent over and turned on the jets, which kicked up a lot more steam and a lot more noise. I was starting to melt inside my own clothes, and he must have been too, because when he turned back to me he was slipping his t-shirt over his head.

"What are you doing?" I asked, my voice coming out a little strangled.

"You and I need to talk," he said, letting the shirt drop to the floor.

"Yes," I said, trying not to gawk at his chest and the way the steam swirled into it, his PSS shining back and coloring the mist a soft blue hue. "But can't we do that with our clothes on?"

"We need to talk where I'm sure no one can hear us," he said, his hands going to the snap of his jeans. The zipper was next. He had on red tartan boxers. He slid the jeans down his legs, turned, slipped off the boxers, and stepped into the tub, sinking down into it with an audible moan.

I stood there stunned. I had just seen Marcus naked. He'd just stripped to his beautiful bare ass right in front of me as if it were nothing. Yes, we'd been sleeping in a tent together for weeks, and making out, but when one of us changed clothes, the other still looked away. Marcus and I had not gotten naked together. We hadn't even come close, because I always held back. I couldn’t even bring myself to reach my hands inside his shirt. What if my flesh hand accidentally went into his chest and disrupted his PSS? Even worse, what if my ghost hand reached into him and pulled something horrible out? I was pretty sure either of those scenarios would be a serious buzz kill to our intimacy.

"Do you have any idea how long it's been since I've had a bath?" he said, almost a purr, laying his head back on the edge of the tub and closing his eyes.

"I—no—I haven't had one for like a month," I stammered, looking down at the tile floor, completely flustered.

"Olivia," he said softly, and I looked up to find his eyes boring into me, dewy drops captured on those thick dark lashes. "Come here."

I crossed obediently to the side of the bath, both relieved and a bit disappointed to find that the burbling of the jets obscured most of what was in it. Except his PSS chest. It glowed and pulsed like some half-submerged, cerulean, underwater treasure.

Marcus put his hand out for mine. The invitation was obvious.

This was crazy. There was no way we were going to be able to talk, coherently, in a bathtub together.

"It's a big tub," he said, nodding at the other end, "and I promise to be good."

Yeah, but it wasn't just him I was worried about. If I got in the tub with Marcus, I would be in the tub with Marcus. "But I—" I looked down at myself. I had on my sleeping tank with no bra underneath, my sweatpants, and underwear.

"You have no idea how relaxing this is," he said, slipping his hand back into the water and closing his eyes. Either he was taunting me, or giving me a chance to undress without him watching. Probably both.

"You bastard," I muttered under my breath. I slipped off my shoes and sweatpants and padding barefoot to the far end of the tub. I was not going in completely naked. I wasn’t that much of a fool. I kept my tank and underwear on and stepped into the hot swirling water. As I slid down into it, jets pounding my butt and back, the wet heat rising up and swallowing all my aches and pains in its pure liquid magic, I couldn't keep the moan from escaping my lips either.

And I didn't miss the effect that sound had on my bath mate.

One of his lean, muscular legs brushed mine, trembling. And his eyes widened. And his breath came a little faster across the water, far less relaxed then it had been only a moment before.

    Disclosure of the Heart Promo

    Disclosure of the Heart
    by Mary Whitney
    Hosted by: Bare Naked Words
Sixteen years is a long time to wait for your true love to reappear, and, anyway, Nicki Johnson couldn’t wait for the impossible to happen. Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend. But when her high school love, Adam Kincaid, walks into the White House as a BBC reporter, Nicki’s world is thrown into turmoil as she relives their past. Adam has come back for her, but has he arrived too late?

Even before she graduated from law school, Mary Whitney knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Washington, D.C., Mary now lives in Northern California with her two daughters and real lawyer husband.

    Excerpt:

“I’ve been meaning to tell you something.” I leaned against the doorjamb and crossed my arms, hoping to signal that if I didn’t sit down, it wasn’t worth a real discussion.
    “What’s that?”
“Just that I knew Adam Kincaid in high school.”
Smiling, Matt cocked his head and leaned back in his seat, giving his belly a wide berth from the desk. “Adam with the BBC? How did that happen? I thought you went to high school in Texas.”
    “I did.”
“Was he an exchange student or something?”
“No. His dad is a geologist and worked for a year in Houston for an oil company.”
“Wow, what a coincidence. Were you friends?”
It was the logical question, but I wanted to laugh. Adam wasn’t my friend. We were never friends. If he’d been my friend, I would’ve stayed in touch with him over the years. But if I told Matt no, I’d lead him completely astray. I had to at least disclose there had been something romantic between Adam and me.
I shrugged. “We went out…a few times.”
As soon as I said it, I kicked myself. I shouldn’t have added “a few times.” I’d just lied to my boss. Yet if I left it open, he could probe more. How could I tell him anything else? I never talked with anyone about Adam.
Matt placed his hands behind his head like he always did when he wanted to enjoy a juicy story. He snickered and asked, “So you kissed him?”
What a question. What hadn’t I done with Adam? Hoping a joke would make everything feel less like a lie, I smiled and said, “Maybe.”
That brought out Matt’s big belly laugh. Thank God for sexual harassment laws because he didn’t press me on the issue and instead moved on. “So did you keep in touch after he left?”
“No, but I’ve kept up with his sister, Sylvia.” I took a deep breath, happy I was back in the land of the complete truth. “She lives in New York.”
His tone became more serious. “I suppose I should ask if you plan on striking up something romantic with him again.”
“Uh, no.” My response was immediate and without forethought. I was pleased of that. Though I wasn’t proud of the twinge of regret I felt after I’d said it.
“Just asking. You know it’s my job to look out for that sort of thing,” he said, looking at his watch. “I need to get going. Thanks for letting me know. I don’t see it as a problem.”
    “Thanks. Have a good night.”
    “You, too.”
I turned around, feeling like I’d gotten away with murder but happy for it all the same. Yet just as I took a few steps away, I heard him say, “Oh, Nicole.”
“Yeah?” I asked, looking over my shoulder.
Matt wore his most devilish grin. “Have you told Juan Carlos?”
I froze at the thought, but somewhere I found a smile to fake for the moment. The best thing to do when you don’t want to answer a question is change the subject. I rolled my eyes and said, “I gotta’ go. I need to catch my train.”

But Matt knew me too well. As I walked away, I heard him laugh. “I didn’t think so.” A few seconds lapsed, and he called from his office, “You know what they say about jealous Latin men!”

    _________________________________________________________________

DescriptionWorking with the ex you secretly love to save the souls of the innocent is almost as bad as working with a mighty battle unicorn who would be thrilled to watch you plummet to your death.

Scout is used to pain. Her body has been broken, her heart has been broken, and the only thing keeping her together is her relationship with her younger sister. Lil Bit believes in unicorns and terrifying monsters she calls soul stealers. But unicorns and monsters aren’t real…are they?

When Lil Bit falls prey to the mysterious disease sweeping the country, Scout has two options – believe the doctors who say it’s a pandemic or believe Lil Bit, who says it’s the soul stealers. She chooses her sister and goes looking for the unicorns who are supposed to save them. What she finds aren’t the cute pastel mythical creatures she expects. Battle unicorns are big and tough and full of attitude. Who knew?

Unicorns are real and so are the monsters. Soul stealers are reaping the souls of the innocent, and the unicorns are fighting to stop them. But to save the world, they need the help of humans – the enemy they’re dying to protect. And first to sign up for the fight is the ex-boyfriend Scout’s heart won’t stop loving, no matter how determined she is to hate him

My Review: I really enjoyed Warrior Beautiful. I thought that a book about unicorns would be a little weird and not my cup of tea but I really think that it is a great read. Once I got over the fact that there were unicorns and the preconceived images that unicorns conjurer, I was able to focus on the action. These are definitely not the usual unicorns that you would imagine.

“How, exactly, does one find unicorns that one isn’t positive even exist?” Scout asked aloud,
because the eerie silence was creeping her out. “Believe.”

The conflict between Scout and Trey is very interesting. Of course, in my romantic mind, I wanted Scout to forget all of her grievances, Trey to stop being stupid, and the both of them to be happy and ride off into the sunset...maybe on a unicorn. However, the couple have actual issues that they need to work out. But they cannot because of a mass outbreak of a "virus."

The virus is actually mass amounts of soul stealers that are attacking the world and they have finally made to Scout's town. Scout's little sister Lil Bit is the only one who can see the unicorns and knows the truth about the soul stealers. Of course, society being the way it is, Lil Bit is seen as weird and crazy. In actuality, Lil Bit is a true believer and would make a great warrior because of her innocent heart.

Lil Bit thwarted her efforts. “Yes Trey. Thank you.” She leaned closer to Trey,
whispering, “The soul stealers are coming.”

Scout and Trey find themselves two of the last remaining people in their town and must help the unicorns fight the soul stealers. However, can they trust the unicorns when they say that they can help Scout and Trey rescue their families or are the unicorns just looking for warriors to help destroy the soul stealers?

“Because humans are worthless, untrustworthy, and weak.” Ashra’s horn
shot sparks, igniting the trees above her. “Because humans and unicorns… have
trust issues.” Havik turned to look back at Ashra.

I think it should be known that this novel ends probably the biggest and most frustrating cliff hangers. It's pretty much like you turn the page ready for action only to see a blank page. I'm now in desperate need to find out what happens next.

Quick Opinion: Overall, I think Warrior Beautiful is a great story about love, trust, and having faith in yourself and others. Scout and Trey must work out their romantic issues along with fighting to rescue their family. This novel is well written and very interesting. The action scenes are just that, full of action. The cliff hanger did leave me a bit frustrated. I am beginning to get irritated seeing them because they seem to be a trend in writing right now but that's not specific to this novel. Lil Bit was, perhaps, my favorite character even though she is not in much of the book because she is a true believer. She knows what is truly going on but no one but Scout will believe her. I give Warrior Beautiful 4 stakes and I really want to know what happens next.

Meet the Author: Wendy Knight was born and raised in Utah by a wonderful family who spoiled her rotten because she was the

baby. Now she spends her time driving her husband crazy with her many eccentricities (no water after five, terror when faced with a live phone call, etcetera, etcetera). She also enjoys chasing her three adorable kids, playing tennis, watching football, reading, and hiking. Camping is also big: her family is slowly working toward a goal of seeing all the National Parks in the U.S.

You can usually find her with at least one Pepsi nearby, wearing ridiculously high heel for whatever the occasion may be. And if everything works out just right, she will also be writing.
