Feature & Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
This week's features are The Mile Long Bookshelf and Hardcore Heroines
This week's question is... How do you handle a book you don't like? Do you DNF or do you power through?
My Answer: Generally if I am reading a book that I was asked to review or I actually plan to review it I will power through just because I feel obligated and I'm hoping it will get better. There aren't many books that I haven't finished. I would say it has been no more than five that I haven't finished. Sometimes when I'm done I'll say: "That book was crappy," but I usually finish them.
I've tried to request less books (although Netgalley is an ADDICTION!) because I really hate the obligation and the awkwardness I feel when I'm really excited to read a book...until I read the book. I try to power through author requested ones, but I typically end up DNFing all the others that I can't get into.

It isn't a normal thing for me to DNF a book either. Normally I can find something to like about a book to keep me going.

I always feel the need to follow through on books. I'm a Bloglovin follower. :b
ReplyDeleteUsually I will give it 50-100 pages before I DNF if I'm not enjoying it. I used to power through but I no longer have the time and it turned reading into a chore. There are too many books on my tbr pile for me to feel guilty and I'm picky about what I read, so only have 1 DNF so far!

I hate to not finish a book. It does happen occasionally though. I always give it my best effort before giving up.

I like sticking with it if I'm curious if it might get better (or worse, ha) but sometimes I just can't go on!
