Cover Reveals: Fix Up & Change Up by Stephanie Witter

My Review of Book #1 Patch Up

FIX UP (Patch Up #2)

Coming out October 14th
Fix Up on Goodreads: Fix Up (Patch Up, #2)

Blurb:

Saying “I love you'' doesn’t erase the old scars and fears.

"I love you to insanity. I'm not even sure if it's a good thing.'' — Duke

Skye is trying to overcome what happened with Sean. Now that she’s slowly healing, both physically and mentally, she’s determined to do something she should have done sooner.

She’s meeting twice a week with a new, very young therapist, Dr. Marshall.

There, she’s able to talk freely, unwind, and question things. Most of the sessions she talks about herself and her hangups, along with her relationship with Duke, which is still on rocky ground.

"I want to taste his sweat. I want to hear his groans. I want to feel him inside of me.'' — Skye

But while Skye is slowly getting back on her feet, Duke feels like he's drowning. He’s afraid of pushing her too much, of initiating intimacy, and it’s weighing between them. Moreover, knowing that he's not the one she’s talking to anymore is making him feel things he never thought possible.

"It’s a matter of when I’ll stop fighting." — Duke

As days pass, Duke is showing over and over how vulnerable he truly is and how Skye has more power over him than she ever imagined.

When Skye sees how they keep hurting each other, she’s determined to do everything in her power to make things right, no matter what the cost. But one thing is still sure; she can count on Duke whenever she needs him, even if they disagree and fight. When Duke loves, he loves with everything he’s made of, the good and the bad.

"Loving her is confusing, making me afraid of myself and what I can do ... because I can break us both." — Duke

Coming out late November.
Change Up on Goodreads: Change Up (Patch Up, #3)

Blurb:

In Patch Up and Fix Up you had Skye and Duke’s story. Now, it’s time for Derek and Kate to find their path.

He fights for the people he loves.

She fights against love.

Kate Andrews is starting her second year of college in Seattle. She is happy to leave Chicago and her dysfunctional family behind to be with her friends again. Growing up she thought that her parents' loveless marriage was all her father’s fault, but that summer she discovered that things are so much more complicated in life and love.

Her mother is bipolar. That doesn’t mean her father isn’t unfaithful, nor does he support her and her choices. Additionally, he isn't a great father or husband, but it brings a new perspective in her life; the way she envisions love.

Derek Williams graduated college a few months ago, and while he moved back in again with his single mother and teenage brother, he never thought that he would be struggling with two crappy jobs. He is not succeeding in either of his jobs or in his countless plans for the future.

Instead, he’s trying to bring back his brother and set him on a straight path, while trying to avoid the wrong crowd hounding him, thanks to his brother. Together with fighting his mother on her lack of support in their family, this all has caused chaos.

“Yes, my life is a fucking mess. I have nothing for that girl who deserves everything, and yet I still can’t just sit on my ass and wait for the next asshole to pursue her.‘' — DEREK

Both of them are very different. Their upbringing is opposite; their vision of love and life contrast, and yet …

“I want to open up to it, open up to the possibility of heartbreak even if I’m scared to death. I’m ready to change up.'' — KATE

They’re both still hung up on each other.

They can’t forget that one night they shared months ago, can’t ignore their attraction and quickly maturing love. They match in every way that matters, but time and time again their respective families are getting in the way.

"He’s the commitment kind while I’m anti-commitment." — KATE

Are they willing to fight for each other? Is Kate ready to risk her comfort and everything else for love? Is Derek prepared to chose which battles are worth fighting for?

“It’s never been friendship, and it’ll never be.’’ — DEREK

Blog Tour: Divinity by Michelle L. Johnson

When Julia climbs into a flaming car to save a trapped child, she's left wondering why either of them survived. Then she learns that her father is the Archangel Gabriel, and that she is half human, half Archangel.

With guidance from Michael, the most powerful Archangel, Julia sets out to discover her own history and explore her angelic powers. But her journey is cut short when an evil force, invisible to human and angel alike, tears her world apart.

Now Julia must fight through her despair, harness her newfound gifts, and risk her very soul to stop the A'nwel and protect the family she never knew she had.

What she doesn't know is that Archangels have secrets too.

Excerpt:

“I appeared to her in the manner we agreed upon. No sudden surprises,” Gabriel continued his defense.
“Yes, we have lost far too many to heart attacks. At least we have learned that lesson. Humans simply aren’t used to things just appearing in front of them. They need a lead in,” Michael mused. “They seem oddly comfortable with sudden disappearances, on the other hand.”
“She hates me,” Gabriel said as he ruffled his wings, adjusting the way they lay on his back. It was the angel equivalent of drumming one’s fingers or tapping a foot to show impatience. “It is in her eyes. She believes that everything bad that has happened to her was my fault.”
“They always believe that. She will learn otherwise. All right, you followed instructions,” Michael grudgingly conceded. “But we will need to bring her back into balance. Her fate overshadows us all.”
“We have made her strong,” Gabriel began, the recognition of Michael’s thoughts flashing in his eyes.

“Now let us help make her whole,” Michael finished.

What I Thought

Divinity was definitely a longer book than I thought it was. But not in a bad way. I was really impressed that there were so many facets that contributed to the story. I loved the overall concept of Archangels and half-human half-angel children. Also, after seeing Julia progress, I am fairly confident that she could be the one to save Earth from an evil being.

In the very beginning of the novel, I truly felt for Julia. I felt her pain and think that the emotions were beautifully written. She desperately desired a family and once she, sort of, found one, it was not at all what she was expecting. I think the details of loss and abuse contributed much to Julia's character as it gave her a reason to fight and a desire to become stronger.

I was very upset with one scene in the book that deals with loss and sacrifice. I think it was incredibly sad and I actually cried. I love stories about angels because I like getting different perspectives and I think they are mainly less represented in a book world filled with vampires, werewolves, and shape shifters. I see Divinity as a book, not only about angels, but about redemption and sacrifice and self growth.

I really liked Divinity and I will definitely be reading this again soon. I give this novel 4 stakes.

Michelle L. Johnson is the author of DIVINITY, a supernatural urban fantasy, and the author of THE FOOTLOOSE KILLER, a mystery. She's also a literary agent, a coffee lover beyond reason, and has a fascination with the workings of the human mind.

My review of Book 1: A Missing Peace

Review of Book 2:
Because I read and loved book 1, A Missing Peace, I had high expectations for Finding Hope and I was not disappointed. I loved this book.  As the events in this book sort of coincide with things in the first book, I enjoyed seeing a different perspective on what happened in book 1. I was also curious as to how Abraham would ever be in a relationship with Kailee after all of the disrespectful things that she said and did.

However, after reading this book I really like Kailee. You really get to see what she goes through in her life and the reasoning behind a lot of what she did in book 1. I almost want to say that this book was a little better than A Missing Peace just because you get to see both sides of the story and there is so much going on. You see Kailee and Abraham's story while also getting a different perspective on Caleb and Mirriam. Also, there was a secondary storyline, or I guess tertiary line about Kaillee's brother and his PTSD.

I really loved Finding Hope and I love this series. I think the epilogue was great with the update on the three couples after several years. I love when authors do that because I'm always left with questions about whether the relationship survived and what happens years later. I give Finding Hope 4 stakes and I will definitely be reading this soon.
