I read Infinite Days when it was first released and it is amazing. Learning and experiencing life through Lenah's eyes was so fun and enlightening. I felt sympathy for her at times and thought she seemed so real and down-to-earth. The ending was phenomenal. It leaves off on a slight cliff-hanger which tends to bother me, but I liked this one. I think everyone should read this book. As usual please tell me about your own teases and tell me what you think about this book. 

Name Change

Ok. So I am sorry for any confusion this might cause but I'm doing it early on, so it shouldn't.

I changed the blog name to: Once Upon a Coffin. With the tagline: You Can't Judge a Vampire by her Cover.

I still read and love all books but paranormal and romance are my two favorites and vampires are probably my favorite paranormal "species" I guess.

To Be Read ft. Clockwork Angel and Whiskey Beach

Hello all. So today we have two completely different novels, one is YA and the other a little more adult. The first one is Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel and the other is Nora Roberts' Whiskey Beach.

So of these two I am probably looking forward to Clockwork Angel the most. Nora Roberts is my favorite author; however, the mystery and love triangle of Clockwork Angel sounds really fun. Also, I love the Mortal Instruments series so this should be interesting.

Nola Sarina's Gilded Destiny

My Reaction: When first picking up this novel it is important to note that this is a novella. I did not realize this at first, but it was not a problem. The first scene where Calli meets Nycholas was a little strange for me just because it didn't understand what a vesper was or what it did. Calli running away with Nycholas so agreeably was a little unbelievable for me, but I could deal with it. Nycholas' master and so called "brothers" angered me because they only want to destroy Nycholas simply because he wouldn't follow their rules.  

Overall: (4.5/5) I really liked the meaning behind Calli's tattoos that even she did not fully understand until the end. I also liked Nycholas. I thought he was sweet and nice despite his actions. I did not like the ending of the novella and all; however, this was not due to the author's writing or story-telling ability. I did not like it simply because it was not a happy ending by any means. It was so, so sad, I literally was tearing up. I would recommend this book to anyone (although there are a few steamy scenes and some language if this a concern) and I am waiting for a sequel.

Teaser Tuesday: Jaclyn Dolamore's Magic Under Stone

Today's teaser is Jaclyn Dolamore's Magic Under Stone. This is the sequel to her novel Magic Under Stone. I read the first book two years ago and just never picked up the sequel but here it is. I definitely will be reading this book this week because I really loved the first one. I borrowed this book from my art teacher as she is the author's aunt. Jaclyn Dolamore visited my school two years ago and I was fortunate enough to get a copy of Magic Under Glass signed by her.

Without reding this whole book I can already tell that this is my favorite line. I love romanc novels and I really liked the romantic aspect that the first novel had. I might need to reread the first one as it has been a while but this novel is definitely getting read this week.

TBR Pile. Sorry it's late. Featuring "Cracked" and "Cinder"

For today's To Be Read Pile (which was supposed to be yesterday :) sorry), the two books are K. M. Walton's Cracked and Marissa Meyer's Cinder. I have been waiting to read Cinder for the longest time but life has been getting in the way and I have been forced to keep putting it off, but hopefully I will get to it this week.

I am probably most excited about Cracked because the description reminds me of Ellen Hopkin's Impulse which I enjoyed very much. I like to learn about people's problems and why we do the things we do so I think this book will be very interesting. Also Cinder looks like it will be very surprising to see a new take on a classic fairy tale which I really like.

My Reaction: Untethered by Katie Hayoz had many things that I like to see in books. It includes love, friendship, and revenge which are all things I love. Sylvie and Cassie's friendship was very touching and emotional because it was plainly clear how much they depended on each other just to survive. The fact that this book involves teenagers made it more believable to me that they would let a boy come between them. I found the astral projection that Sylvie can do very interesting. Of all the books I have read I have only read two about things similar to astral projection. I agreed with Sylvie's emotions and actions through most of the book because of her bond with Cassie and thought that Cassie could have handled the situation a million times better. And if I was Sylvie, though, I would have chosen Nelson from the start. He seems so much cooler and more interesting. All in all I really loved Untethered and sincerely wish for a sequel because there was a bit of a cliff hanger ending.

Overall: (5/5) Because of the love triangle (or maybe square). I love Sylvie and wish her the best in the future, if there is a sequel. I love novels where I can read them and look up and I'm finished in 3 hours. Also the characters were so well developed and not cookie-cutter, where you actually care about them and what happens in their lives.

First To Be Read Pile!!!

For my first TBR pile, I decided to choose three books. I have a slight (slightly huge) addiction to buying books, but because of school, family, and whatnot the pile grows quicker than I have time to read. So here are three that I have laying around and haven’t read yet. The descriptions of these books are from the back or inside flap because I haven’t read them yet.

1. (Romantic Suspense) Nicholas Sparks: Safe Haven I know, I know. How haven’t I read this yet? The movie is out and I want to see it but I have this policy where I will not see a book-themed movies if I haven’t read it. So Safe Haven:

My Thoughts: About Becoming Red...if I'm being perfectly honest I had a little trouble getting into this book. It had many elements that I enjoy in books such as, wolves and romance. I also liked the hint of the little Red Riding Hood fairly tale. I am really interested in Ireland and mythology so it was a pleasant surprise to have them woven in and be the main focus of the novel. The only complaint I have about it is that the mythology was a little difficult for me to keep straight in my head...I was a little confused about the back story of the Raveners and the other creatures. The authors do provide a glossary at the end, which I found very useful.

The novel starts out with Ash in college and an unusual feeling overcomes her. She eventually ends up in Dublin to take care of her grandmother's house where she meets a dangerous, yet sexy man, Connal. Connal has known Ash's grandmother for a very, very long time, and works for her. For reasons explained in the book, and possible spoilers, Connal and Ash must fight their attraction and then to stay together because of other people and forces trying to come between and hurt them.

Overall: (3.5/4) I did like this novel even though the back story and mythology was a little difficult to keep track of, but that's probably just me. :) The fairytale touches and nicknames between Ash and Connal were very cute and I loved them together. Ash slightly angered me at the very beginning because she was jumping to conclusions about Connal and his behavior. I would give this book a 3.5-4 because I did really enjoy it and admire the authors work in creating this. I would read a sequel if one is coming out now that I understand some of the mythology that Raven and Black have created.

My Reaction: I am reading the Scansguards Vampire series out order apparently. However, I received this in a bundle and was not going to pass up the chance to read this as vampires are my favorite subject. I have read one other, Samson's Lovely Mortal, and it was amazing (the review for that will be up later). In this book Zane, a tough and scary vampire (aren't they all), makes a mistake and as punishment must "babysit" a hybrid vampire for her father. The reasons for Portia needing to be watched over are revealed to Zane and the plot of the story is set. At this point in the story, her father already seems like a tyrant and a bully, but more about him will come. The descriptions of what Zane went through in the concentration camps during the Holocaust were very, very well executed and it was heart-breaking to remember and imagine that real people actually went through it. The presence of the other Scansguards Vampires only added to the story although I do not think anything was given away if you read the books out of order like I am. Zane's past catches up with him and his and Portia's love is tested. 

Overall: (5/5) Overall, this novel was absolutely incredible. Unlike in other novels, minute details do not take a back seat to the romance and action. The characters were not flat and they felt like real people that you would know and care about (despite that fact that they are vampires). I was intrigued by the Scansguards Vampires in Samson's Lovely Mortal and will be quick to read the remaining novels. Also, I find that Tina Folsom is an amazing author who is capable of pulling you into her world. I found this out through her Touch of Greek series.

Ensuing Darkness by Alexis Cain

My Reaction: I absolutely loved Ensuing Darkness. The plot was interesting, the characters well-developed, and they had me laughing and crying along with me. Kota, to me, was exactly as a heroine should be strong, independent, and likable. Connelly seemed like a well-developed and not stereotypical male lead. He wasn’t egotistical and he tried to protect Kota without being controlling. Their relationship was more “believable.” They didn’t need to be together every second of the day like some other books will have their couples do. The siblings were all amusing, I loved them all and would not be upset to see books going into more details about them *****HINT HINT****. The secondary relationship of Ivan and Sue was sooo sweet and the “event” (don’t want to spoil anything) that happend to Sue made my heart break for her. Allister and Vincent made me laugh out loud. As far as the action goes, it was well detailed and was a nice balance to the romance. It was interesting the way Alexis Cain approached the vampire trend going on right now. I think she definitely has a new and enjoyable way of portraying her vampires. I give this book 4 and a half stars because although the book clearly leaves off for a sequel, I feel like this could have been done without just feeling like you’re missing a chapter.

Complete Side Note: Because I have no idea if this was just the format on my kindle but the  lines were spaced out oddly and the title and author’s name appeared throughout the book randomly for example,

           “only to find that class had apparently

            Ensuing Darkness

            already started.”

But I could ignore this problem as I began more engrossed in the novel. :)

Overall: (4.5/5) Overall I really enjoyed this novel. I felt like it was a refreshing take on "high school girl falls in love with a vampire." I truly do hope that a sequel will be arriving soon because I cannot wait to read more about Kota and Connelly and if the cliff hanger ending does not remain the way it left (again don't want to spoil anything).

My Reaction: I read books very quickly so when I sat down to read Broken Faith I was surprised to realize that I was finished in a matter of a couple of hours. The characters in this novel are so engaging that you genuinely feel their emotions. I absolutely loved Sabrina. Her attitude and survival instinct combined with her concern for Kayson is so sweet and amusing. The details are so realistic that I could actually imagine Sabrina’s stance and facial expressions. Kayson and Sabrina’s relationship is so refreshing because it’s not the usual: “let’s fall in love as soon as we meet each other.” I was also fascinated with their respective backstories and how they ended up the way they did. Emma slightly annoyed me at first because I was concerned about what her involvement would mean for Kayson and Sabrina. I had similar emotions as Sabrina with some of the things Emma was thinking and doing. However I am glad she was there to help in the end. The angel aspect of the novel was very well done and made sense (in the paranormal realm of course.) I genuinely felt sorry for Kayson and am glad he found what he was looking for (possible spoiler so I won’t say what).

Overall: (5/5) Broken Faith was a pleasant surprise of a novel and I sincerely hope there is a sequel coming quickly.
